Bucks Fizz are a British Pop Group who catapulted to fame in 1981 after winning the Eurovision Song Contest for the UK.
Originally made up of members Mike Nolan, Cheryl Baker, Bobby Gee and Jay Aston, they went on to have 20 chart hits of which 3 made the Number 1 spot.
‘Making Your Mind Up, The Land of Make Believe and My Camera Never Lies.’
Tragedy hit the group on 11 December 1984, while on tour and returning from a sold-out gig in Newcastle, the group's tour bus was extensively damaged after colliding with an articulated lorry. While no one was killed, several members of the crew were badly injured, including all the members of Bucks Fizz.
Mike Nolan’s condition was critical, badly injured with internal bleeding and he fell into a coma. On 15 December, it was reported that Nolan awoke from his coma with the words "I'm all right".
The following year Jay Aston no longer wanted to continue in the Group and left.
Auditions for a replacement were held at the Prince of Wales Theatre, where 800 girls were seen. Eventually, 21-year-old Shelley Preston was given the job.
I have been a fan of this Group since the beginning of their formation but only got to see their Live performance for the first time on the 1984 Tour and sadly didn’t own a camera.
So at the beginning of 1985 I invested in a professional camera, which after some research on ‘Concert Photography’ I knew what settings and film I needed to capture the best photo’s
(no digital camera’s in those days, you took all the photos then had to get them developed before you knew if they were worth the effort).

Some of these photos have been featured in the Albums ‘Lost Masters 2’ and ‘The Platinum Collection’.
